Cylinder Overboring
The latest 'Plateau Honing' technique requires a minimum stock removal of 0.0015" using three different grits. Piston manufacturers claim that this method considerably reduces piston wear in the early stages of running in. Cross Hatch patterns are equally important to obtain sufficient lubrication to piston rings. Recent research carried out by several manufacturers has proved beyond doubt that detailed attention to exact bore finish specifications is justified. Different manufacturers however specify varying finishes to suit specific bore and piston materials utilised and to suit the individual running characteristics of their engine. This variation in 'specified finish' results in wide ranging times for honing operations. The following prices should therefore be treated as an approximate guide.

Line Honing
Sunnen line honing equipment is utilised for sizing housings which requires extreme accuracy on diameter and alignment. Main housing alignment is particularly critical on race engines where maximum power output is always of paramount importance. A far greater degree of accuracy is achievable than that available from any line boring operation. The following prices should therefore be treated as a guide only.

Flow Bench Testing
We can undertake design and development work and this is charged on a time taken basis. Due to the nature of the job involving tooling up, the making of various adaptors and templates and a serious of tests, it is virtually impossible to quote accurate costs in advance. Work can be undertaken on the following alternative basis:-
  1. A budget is clearly defined by the customer, the test programme is clearly defined and the order of test mutually agreed. When the budget is exhausted the test programme ceases.
  2. The test required is straightforward and finite and therefore subject to an advance quotation.

Propshaft Balancing etc

It is essential to carry out balancing propshafts fitted with all respective universal joints, couplings and flanges. These are frequently found to be the cause of many 'out of balance' problems and any worn joints will automatically be replaced at extra cost.

Most propshafts also have a tendency to flex at differing rev bands so balancing is carried out at varying speeds upto 5000rpm. Time taken to balance a propshaft can vary so the following prices are a guide only.

Glass Beadblasting

1st Stage Wash
The Bupi hot chemical wash is used to remove the worst prior to machining, the machine has a rotating basket for the work onto which are directed numerous powerful jets of Alkaline detergent heated to 180 degrees F.

2nd Stage Wash
All oil gallery bungs are removed and components are totally immersed in the Nu-Dip tank, a strong Alkaline chemical is heated to 180F and components are oscillated up and down within the solution at 40 cycles per minute. The process time is usually 3-4 hours.

3rd Stage Wash
Final rinse after degreasing is carried out with a hot pressure washer to ensure absolute cleanliness. Components are then hot air dried and lightly oiled ready for assembly.
